Classic 103'12 recommended this activity for the session on Self Management 1. Each Y1 (and PSL should they wish to join in) will fill in the blanks: “To be a responsible ____, I have to ____.” E.g. “To be a responsible RGS girl, I have to respect and follow the rules.” Each Y1 will share a different responsibility they hold. This way, they can see that an RGS girl has to juggle many commitments, and thus realise the importance of self management! 2. Boulders, rocks and pebbles activity: In this activity, boulders, rocks and pebbles will represent the responsibilities the Y1s shoulder. Y1s and PSLs will go in a circle to share their boulders (heavy responsibilities), rocks (less heavy responsibilities) and their pebbles (small responsibilities). 3. Y1s will draw a clock on a piece of paper and fill in a rough “timetable” of a typical day in their lives, including activities and work to be done (e.g. “3.00pm - CCA training”, “6.00pm - Tuition”, “9.00pm - homework”). This is to let the Y1s understand that there is a fixed amount of time each day and as such, they need to understand the importance of time management to balance out all their responsibilities well. Here's what the classic said after the activity! This activity was used by 104'12 Classic on Self Management! The game will put the year 1s in a bit of stress so they'll have to learn to prioritize, manage their time, and manage expectations of themselves. The games used can be ice breakers and team bonding activities, which you can find in those tags :) 1. Get the chairs pushed to the sides, leaving a space in the centre of the classroom.
2. Split the class into four groups. We will be getting the class to pick an ice-cream stick from a box of them, each having the name of their group on it. They will then group according to what’s stated on their ice-cream stick. There will be one PSL facilitating in each group. Each group proceed to one corner of the classroom. 3. The PSLs will brief their respective groups on the game instructions: -Each group will receive a list of 5 missions (mini games) -By completing a mission, the group will earn points. However, the points awarded for each mission will vary, as indicated on the list. -The objective of the game is to earn as many points as possible within a short 15 minutes. 4. After the game, the PSL in each group will calculate the points and the group with the highest points will win a prize. 5. Debrief!
